Building a registry for twins isn't just a singleton list times two. Some things you genuinely need in pairs, some you can share, and a few twin-specific items make the early months far easier. Here's how to split it so you don't overbuy or come up short.
What to buy two of
A handful of items truly need a one-per-baby count. These are the doubles worth registering for first.
Two car seats
You can't leave the hospital without one installed seat per baby, so put two infant car seats near the top of the list.
Two safe sleep spaces
Twins should each have their own sleep surface. Two bassinets keep both close in the early weeks without sharing a space.
What you can share
Plenty of big-ticket items work fine as a single shared purchase, which keeps the registry total reasonable.
One double stroller
A single twin stroller covers both babies. Decide on side-by-side versus tandem before you register.
One changing station
You only need one well-stocked changing area. A single contoured changing pad handles both babies.
Twin-specific lifesavers
These are the items singleton parents skip but twin parents swear by.
A twin nursing pillow
Tandem feeding two babies is far easier with a pillow built to support both at once.
A double electric pump
Whether you nurse, pump, or combo feed, a double electric pump saves hours over the first months.
Stock up in bulk
Two babies burn through consumables fast. Register for larger counts than a singleton list suggests.
- Newborn and size 1 diapers—twins outgrow newborn quickly
- Two sets of swaddles, plenty of burp cloths, and extra crib sheets
- A double helping of bottles if you plan to bottle or combo feed
