Twins arrive earlier on average than singletons, so pack your bag by around 30 weeks. Plan for a possible NICU stay, double the newborn essentials, and a slightly longer hospital stay than you'd expect with one baby.
For mom
- ID, insurance card, and your birth plan
- Long phone charger and a comfy going-home outfit
- Toiletries and lip balm; hospital air is dry
- A nursing pillow sized for tandem feeding two babies
For the babies (×2)
- Two going-home outfits in newborn and preemie sizes
- Two swaddle blankets and two hats
- Two installed infant car seats—done before discharge
For your partner
- Snacks and a refillable water bottle for a longer stay
- A pillow and a change of clothes—twin stays run long
- A small bag if one baby is in the NICU and you're split between rooms
If the NICU is likely
Preterm twins may spend time in the NICU. Pack a few extra preemie items, a notebook for tracking feeds, and comfortable layers for long days at the bedside.
